Luton Cultural Services Trust's small but dedicated team of arts and events officers offer a range of arts development and arts outreach services as well as a programme of arts events.
The Arts Development and Events Unit:-
- Is committed to develop, implement and promote the Council's Arts Strategy.
- Is committed to provide a range of high-quality arts services in Luton.
- Encourages involvement by all sectors of the community to improve Luton's economic, educational and cultural profile.
- Aims to improve the quality of life for all who either live, work in or visit the town.
- Manages, supports and promotes a broad programme of events, cultural and community programmes.
- Works in different locations throughout the town to meet the needs of Luton's diverse population.
What can the Arts Development and Events Unit Offer?
- Local Cultural Diversity - a variety of good quality arts provision is promoted including Asian, African-Caribbean and Irish cultural programmes reflecting local cultural diversity.
- Funding - the Unit manages and administers the Luton Arts Development Fund, a small grants programme to support local arts projects.
- Advice and Assistance with funding applications and development of projects.
- Youth Arts Development - the Unit co-ordinates a range of youth arts and arts in education initiatives, provides advice and support to schools, youth and children's organisations on arts and cultural issues.
- Visual Arts and Public Arts - gallery space at the hat Factory is programmed and co-ordinated with a programme consisting mainly of exhibitions by local artists. (The Gateway Gallery)
The Arts Development and Events Unit Delivers:-
- Luton International Carnival is the number one flagship event for the town. It is a unique and spectacular experience showcasing the very best of Luton's cultural richness and heritage. Our partner for this event is the UK Centre for Carnival Arts.
- Luton Mela Festival - The Mela is an exciting and unique cultural showcase providing an outlet for the creative energies of the Asian and other culturally diverse communities of the town. Our partner for this event is the Luton Mela Group.
- Luton's Fireworks
- Classical Music - promoting professional and amateur classical music groups within the town including a particular emphasis on classical music for all the family. We support the Luton Music Club "Music on Mondays" programme.
